copper chromate Chemical Properties,Uses,Production

Chemical Properties

reddish brown; used as a fungicide, to weatherproof textiles, in epoxy adhesives, and to preserve wood [KIR78]

Physical properties

The neutral form is a reddish-brown crystalline solid; decomposes slowly to copper(II) chromite when heated above 400°C; insoluble in water; soluble in acids.
The basic chromates are crystals having colors that vary from yellow to chocolate-brown to lilac, depending on their compositions and chromate to hydroxide molar ratios. They lose water when heated at 260°C, are insoluble in water, and are soluble in nitric acid.

Uses

It is used in wood preservation and in textile weatherproofing.

Preparation

Copper(II) chromate(VI) is a red or reddish-brown, crystalline material prepared by the careful heating of a mixture of copper(II) oxide and chromium(VI) oxide or by reaction of copper(II) oxide with solutions of chromic acid.
