Chemical Properties

An oleoresin or concrete is produced by solvent extraction of the roots of Elecampane. The concrete is further processed to an alcohol-soluble absolute. It has a very soft, woody root-like, slightly fatty-sweet odor.

Essential oil composition

The root extract was found to contain eudesmanolides alantolactone, isoalantolactone, and 11-alpha H, 13-dihydroisoalantolactone (antimycobacterial compounds).
