Occurrence

A complex dimeric alkaloid, 21' -oxoleurosine occurs in the ethanolic extract of Catharanthus roseus. It yields colourless rods from EtOH and is dextrorotatory with a specific rotation of [α]D25 +55.0°(c 0.1, CHCI3). This base possesses cytotoxic activity.
