解説
メンデレビウム，原子番号101の元素．電子配置[Rn]5f 137s2の9番目に合成された周期表3族アクチノイド元素．周期律のD.I. Mendeleev(メンデレーエフ)にちなんで命名された．1955年，カリフォルニア大学(バークレー校)のG.T. Seaborg(シーボーグ)，A. Ghiorsoらにより，253Es の60 inサイクロトロンによるα粒子衝撃で半減期77 min の質量数256の核種がつくられた．その後，わずか17原子のイオン交換-溶出クロマトグラフィーにより，ツリウムに性質が似ていることが確認された．第一イオン化エネルギー650 kJ mol－1(6.74 eV)．酸化数1～3．現在，知られている同位体核種は，245～262の範囲に18種．質量数258のα崩壊核種がもっとも長寿命で半減期51.5 d．

来歴
The element name of Md derives from the Russian chemist “Dimitrii Mendeleev” who developed the Periodic Table of the chemical elements. Credit for the first synthesis of this element is given American chemists Albert Ghiorso, Bernard G. Harvey, Gregory R. Choppin, and Stanley G. Thompson at the University of California lab in Berkeley, California under Glenn T. Seaborg in 1958, who used the nuclear reaction
