| Chemical Properties | Carbomer 940, also known as carbopol 940, is a white powder that is a high molecular polymer cross-linked by acrylic acid and allyl sucrose ether or allyl pentaerythritol ether. It has a glass transition temperature of 100-105°C and is soluble in water, ethanol, and glycerin. The molecule's weakly acidic nature contains 56% to 68% carboxyl groups, and the pH of 0.5% aqueous dispersion is 2.7 to 3.5. After neutralization, the ionized carboxyl group causes molecular chain dispersion and stretching, showing a significant expansion state that is viscous. The neutralized gel is not sensitive to UV radiation, unaffected by temperature, and resistant to the growth of bacteria and mold.
