Usage: Surgery can't suitable for treatment of advanced or metastatic pancreatic cancer and the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer, treatment, advanced non-small cell lung cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, bladder cancer, breast cancer and other solid tumors.

Gemcitabine is the hydrochloride salt of an analogue of the antimetabolite nucleoside deoxycytidine with antineoplastic activity. Gemcitabine is converted intracellularly to the active metabolites difluorodeoxycytidine di- and triphosphate (dFdCDP, dFdCTP). dFdCDP inhibits ribonucleotide reductase, thereby decreasing the deoxynucleotide pool available for DNA synthesis; dFdCTP is incorporated into DNA, resulting in DNA strand termination and apoptosis.

Gemcitabine is a cytosine analogue and intravenously administered antineoplastic agent used in the therapy of several forms of advanced, pancreatic, lung, breast, ovarian and bladder cancer. Gemcitabine is associated with a high rate of serum enzyme elevations during therapy but is a very rare cause of acute, clinically apparent liver injury.

Use in Cancer

Gemcitabine hydrochloride is approved to be used alone or with other drugs to treat:
Breast cancer that has metastasized (spread to other parts of the body) and has not gotten better with other chemotherapy. It is used with paclitaxel.

Non-small cell lung cancer that is advanced or has metastasized. It is used in patients whose disease cannot be removed by surgery. It is used with cisplatin.

Ovarian cancer that is advanced and has not gotten better with other chemotherapy. It is used with carboplatin.

Pancreatic cancer that is advanced or has metastatsized. It is used in patients whose disease cannot be removed by surgery and who have already been treated with other chemotherapy. It is used with paclitaxel albumin-stabilized nanoparticle formulation.
