The benefits of Oxiracetam

Description

In recent years, there has been an increasing clinical application of nootropic drugs for the therapy of central nervous system diseases such as traumatic brain injury and cerebral hemorrhage. Oxiracetam, a popular nootropic, has been extensively studied for its potential to enhance cognitive function.

Propertis

Oxiracetam, also known as 4-hydroxy-2-oxo-1-pyrrolidineacetamid, is a new ring gamma-amino acid butyric acid derivative. This white to off-white solid is slightly solubility in DMSO (heated) with the chemical formula C6H10N2O3.

Benefits

As a new nootropic drug, this drug could improve local cerebral glucose utilization, promote the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids, and produce a protective effect in cerebrovascular damage. Wang et al indicated Oxiracetam inhibited cell apoptosis in brain tissues and facilitated neurological function recovery. Recent reports have shown that oxiracetam can improve learning and memory in vascular dementia rats and promote cognitive impairment recovery in cerebral hypoperfusion rats. There have been other studies suggesting that the formation of a long-term memory was observed. Surprisingly, one study found that oxiracetam significantly improved neuropsychological performance in healthy volunteers and reduced cognitive deficits in 65-year-old adults.

Half-life

Oxiracetam doesn' t last longer in people and it’s based on so many things, the half-life of the compound is around 8 hours but in those people having kidney issues, it would take typically 10-68 hours before being consumed in half. With around 50-82% bioavailability it takes only 3 hours for Oxiracetam to reach the peak plasma serum levels. The onset of action which means the time at which the drug starts to work is 30-90 minutes with the excretion route renal.

Side effect

No side effects were seen during oxiracetam treatment. The present study, showing positive clinical findings after long-term oxiracetam therapy in controlled conditions, confirms that this drug can be a useful pharmacological treatment for mild to moderate degrees of dementia.
