An alkaloid found in the leaves of Duboisia Hopwoodii, and a constitutent of tobacco smoke. Also used a potential drug for the treatment of senile dementia of the Alzheimer鈥檚 type and currently being investigated as a nicotinic agonist with CNS selectivity. Metanicotine may have clinical potential due to its high selectivity for CNS nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subtypes relative to periphera l ganglionic and muscle-type nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.
