TFEMA can be used in the preparation of poly(TFEMA), which can be used in the development of acrylic protective coatings.

General Description

2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl methacrylate (TFEMA) is a semifluorinated monomer that can be synthesized from methacryloyl chloride and 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol in presence of triethylamine. Its properties include chemical inertness, good wear resistance and low dielectric constant.

Synthesis

The present invention discloses a method for the preparation of trifluoroethyl methacrylate. Trifluoroethanol and methacryloyl chloride are used as raw materials, and the esterification reaction is carried out under the protection of a polymerization blocking agent, and then the target product trifluoroethyl methacrylate is collected from the reaction product. The purity of trifluoroethyl methacrylate obtained by the method of the present invention is more than 99%, the yield is more than 80%, and the boiling point is 100.8-101.2°C. Compared with the prior art, the present invention has mild reaction conditions.
