Uses
Human Ras has been used as a negative control in tubulin overlay assay.
Biological Activity
Ras proteins, p21, are guanyl nucleotide binding proteins th at play an important role in cellular signal transduction. Ras proteins are regulatory proteins th at bind GTP in their active state. A Ras intrinsic GTPase activity hydrolyzes guanosine-5μ-triphosphate (GTP) to guanosine diphosphate (GDP) thus inactivating Ras, while activation of Ras requires exchange of the bound GDP with GTP. Inhibition of Ras activity by stimulation of its GTPase activity is enhanced by GTPase activating proteins. Membrane localization of Ras is crucial for its cellular activity. Inhibition of Ras farnesylation is a target for anti-cancer drug development, since abnormally active Ras is present in more than 50% of human cancers.
