Uses
Sulfonation (H2SO4, 60℃) of 158 gives 1-amino-2-ethoxynaphthalene-6-sulfonic acid for use principally as an intermediate component in azo direct green dyes.
Synthesis
?A solution of 2-ethoxynaphthalene in 1,2-dichlorobenzene is reacted with nitric acid at 45℃. The organic layer is separated and washed at 60℃ before cooling to crystallize 1-nitro-2-ethoxynaphthalene (mp 95 – 100℃) in 80 % yield. Reduction with iron gives 2-ethoxy-1-naphthylamine in 74 % yield.
