The material occurs in the flavor of yellow passion fruit and is mainly used in passion fruit and grapefruit type flavors. It is also recommended for use in citrus and fruity fragrance materials for a wide range of applications.
Preparation
cis-2-Methyl-4-propyl-1,3-oxathiane is prepared by reaction of 3-mercaptohexanol with acetaldehyde.
