Coke (coal) Chemical Properties, Uses, Production
Chemical Properties
Coke includes coke reactivity and coke alkalinity resistance, the main one being coke reactivity. Blast furnace coke undergoes strong carbon-soluble reaction in the soft melt zone of the blast furnace, which is the main cause of coke degradation in the blast furnace, so blast furnace coke should have a low reactivity. According to the method of determining the reactivity of lump coke stipulated by China and Japan (see lump coke reactivity index and post-reaction strength), the reactivity index of coke used in large blast furnace should be less than 35%. Foundry coke is mainly used as a heat source in iron furnaces, and should not generate CO as much as possible in the furnace, so foundry coke requires even lower reactivity.
Uses
The SRM is designed for the evaluation of test methods and calibration of instruments used in the determination of sulfur in furnace (metallurgical) coke.
Definition
