性質
ラノリンアルコールのCAS番号は、8027-33-6で登録されています。淡黄色～黄褐色のロウ状または軟膏状物質で、融点45〜75℃の吸水性を持つ液体です。わずかに特異臭を持ち、味はありません。エタノールには容易に溶けますが、水には不溶です。
ラノリンアルコールは、直鎖アルコールやイソアルコール、アンテイソアルコールなどの脂肪族アルコール、コレステロールなどのステロール、ラノステロールやジヒドロラノステロールなどのトリテルペンアルコールの混合物です。脂肪族アルコール中では、分岐鎖アルコールが大部分を占めます。
解説
ラノリンアルコール (英: Lanolin Alcohol) とは、羊毛から採取できる油脂を精製した高級アルコールとステロールの混合物です。
ラノリンを加水分解することで得られる天然アルコールをラノリンアルコールと呼びます。別名として、ウールアルコール (英: Wool alcohol) やウールワックスアルコール (英: Wool wax alcohol) があります。

Lanolin alcohols is a pale yellow to golden brown-colored solid that
is plastic when warm but brittle when cold. It has a faint
characteristic odor.
使用
lanolin alcohol is widely used as an emulsifier and emollient in water-in-oil systems. It absorbs a considerable amount of water that is then slowly released for moisturization purposes. Lanolin alcohol is a mixture of organic alcohols obtained from the hydrolysis of lanolin. It may cause skin sensitivity and allergic reactions.

使用用途
1. 化粧品添加剤
ラノリンアルコールは、エモリエント効果を期待され、または乳化安定剤として、化粧品に添加されます。エモリエント効果とは、肌表面から水分が蒸発することを防ぎ、潤いを保って肌を柔らかくする効果のことです。
2. 医薬品添加剤
ラノリンアルコールは、主に基剤や分散剤として、外用薬や舌下適用薬に添加されます。
取り扱い及び保管上の注意
皮膚炎がある場合、ラノリンアルコールを含む化粧品の塗布により炎症が悪化する可能性があります。ラノリンアルコールは、日本皮膚免疫アレルギー学会が選定するジャパニーズスタンダードアレルゲンの1つです。稀ですが、過敏反応やアレルギー反応を引き起こす恐れがあります。
ラノリンアルコールを含む化粧品または外用薬を使用していて炎症が表れた場合は、医師または薬剤師に相談してください。ジャパニーズスタンダードアレルゲンとは、日本人にアレルギー反応が起こる確率が高い原因物質のことです。
ラノリンアルコールの他に、やエポキシ樹脂、ロジン、ウルシオールなど24種類の物質が指定されています。専門機関などで、アレルギーの有無を調べるために、パッチテストを行うことができます。

with emollient properties. It is used as a primary
emulsifier in the preparation of water-in-oil creams and lotions and
as an auxiliary emulsifier and stabilizing agent in oil-in-water
creams and lotions.
安全性
Mineral oil and lanolin alcohols is generally regarded as an
essentially nontoxic and nonirritant material. However, lanolin
alcohols may be irritant to the skin and causes hypersensitivity in
some individuals.
製造方法
羊毛を特殊な界面活性剤の存在下、熱水で洗浄し、遠心分離することでラノリンが抽出できます。その後、得られたラノリンを加水分解することでラノリンアルコールが得られます。

Lanolin alcohols is stable and should be stored in a
well-closed container in a cool, dry place.

Lanolin alcohols is incompatible with coal tar, ichthammol, phenol,
and resorcinol.
