外観
本品は白色～帯黄白色の粉末である．
本品はエタノール(95)又はジエチルエーテルにほとんど溶
けない．
本品に水を加えるとき膨潤し懸濁液となる．
本品1.0gに水100mLを加え，振り混ぜて得た懸濁液のpH
は4.5～6.0である．
本品は吸湿性である．

確認試験
(１) 本品0.1gに水10mLを加え，よく振り混ぜ，次に水酸
化ナトリウム試液2mLを加えて振り混ぜ，10分間放置し，
これを試料溶液とする．試料溶液1mLに水を加えて5mLと
し，その1滴にクロモトロープ酸試液0.5mLを加え，水浴中
で10分間加熱するとき，液は赤紫色を呈する．
(２) (1)の試料溶液5mLにアセトン10mLを加えて振り混
ぜるとき，白色綿状の沈殿を生じる．
(３) (1)の試料溶液5mLに塩化鉄(Ⅲ)試液1mLを加えて振
り混ぜるとき，褐色綿状の沈殿を生じる．
(４) 本品1gを強熱して灰化し，残留物に水10mL及び酢酸
(31)6mLを加えて溶かし，必要ならばろ過し，煮沸した後，
冷却し，アンモニア試液で中和するとき，液はカルシウム塩
の定性反応〈1.09〉の(1)及び(3)を呈する．
純度試験
(１) アルカリ 本品1.0gに新たに煮沸して冷却した水
50mLを加えてよく振り混ぜ，フェノールフタレイン試液2
滴を加えるとき，液は赤色を呈しない．
(２) 塩化物 本品0.80gに水50mLを加えてよく振
り混ぜた後，水酸化ナトリウム試液10mLを加えて溶かし，
水を加えて100mLとし，試料溶液とする．試料溶液20mLに
2mol/L硝酸試液10mLを加え，水浴上で綿状の沈殿が生じる
まで加熱し，冷却した後，遠心分離する．上澄液をとり，沈
殿を水10mLずつで3回洗い，毎回遠心分離し，上澄液及び
洗液を合わせ，水を加えて100mLとする．この液25mLをと
り，硝酸1mL及び水を加えて50mLとする．これを検液とし，
試験を行う．比較液には0.01mol/L塩酸0.40mLを加える
(0.36％以下)．
(３) 硫酸塩 (2)の試料溶液10mLに塩酸1mLを加
え，水浴中で綿状の沈殿が生じるまで加熱し，冷却した後，
遠心分離する．上澄液をとり，沈殿を水10mLずつで3回洗
い，毎回遠心分離し，上澄液及び洗液を合わせ，水を加えて
100mLとする．この液25mLを検液とし，試験を行う．比較
液には0.005mol/L硫酸0.42mLを加える．検液及び比較液に
3mol/L塩酸試液1mL及び塩化バリウム試液3mLずつを加え，
更に水を加えて50mLとし，混和する．10分間放置した後，
混濁を比較する．検液の呈する混濁は，比較液の呈する混濁
より濃くない(1.0％以下)．
(４) 重金属 本品1.0gをとり，第2法により操作
し，試験を行う．比較液には鉛標準液2.0mLを加える
(20ppm以下)．

調製方法
Cellulose, obtained from wood pulp or cotton fibers, is carboxymethylated,
followed by conversion to the calcium salt. It is then
graded on the basis of its degree of carboxymethylation and
pulverized.
応用例（製薬）
The main use of carboxymethylcellulose calcium is in tablet
formulations, where it is used as a binder, diluent,
and disintegrant. Although carboxymethylcellulose calcium is
insoluble in water, it is an effective tablet disintegrant as it swells to
several times its original bulk on contact with water. Concentrations
up to 15% w/w may be used in tablet formulations; above this
concentration, tablet hardness is reduced.
Carboxymethylcellulose calcium is also used in other applications
similarly to carboxymethylcellulose sodium; for example, as a
suspending or viscosity-increasing agent in oral and topical
pharmaceutical formulations. Carboxymethylcellulose calcium is
also used in modern wound dressings for its water absorption,
retention and hemostatic properties.
安全性
Carboxymethylcellulose calcium is used in oral and topical
pharmaceutical formulations, similarly to carboxymethylcellulose
sodium, and is generally regarded as a nontoxic and nonirritant
material. However, as with other cellulose derivatives, oral
consumption of large amounts of carboxymethylcellulose calcium
may have a laxative effect.
貯蔵
Carboxymethylcellulose calcium is a stable, though hygroscopic
material. It should be stored in a well-closed container in a cool, dry
place.
