エタノール, アセトンに可溶。アセトンに溶けやすく、エタノールに徐々に溶ける。
解説
トリフェニルメチルクロリド，融点112～113 ℃，沸点310 ℃．エーテル，クロロホルム，ベンゼンに可溶．テトラヒドロフラン中で等モル量のリチウムナフタレニドを作用させるとトリフェニルメチルラジカルを生成し，二量化する．ピリジン中，第一級，第二級アルコールやフェノールと反応して相当するエーテルを与え，ヒドロキシ基の保護剤として用いられる．アルドヘキソースとは第一級ヒドロキシ基のみ，またシステインとはアミノ基ではなくチオール基と反応するという選択性を示す．

Triphenylmethyl chloride or trityl chloride (TrCl) is a white to yellow solid. Insoluble in water, easily soluble in benzene, carbon disulfide, petroleum ether, slightly soluble in alcohol and ether, and becomes trityl alcohol after absorbing water. It is an alkyl halide, sometimes used to introduce the trityl protecting group.

純化方法
Crystallise trityl chloride from iso-octane. Also crystallise it from 5 parts of pet ether (b 90-100o) and 1 part of acetyl chloride using 1.8g of solvent per g of chloride.
