순도시험

  (1) 비소 : 이 품목을 비소시험법에 따라 시험할 때, 그 양은 4.0ppm 이하이어야 한다.

  (2) 제이철 : 이 품목 5g을 250mL 공전삼각플라스크에 취하여 물 100mL, 염산 10mL를 가하고 녹인 다음 요오드칼륨 3g을 가하여 마개를 하고 잘 섞어 어두운 곳에서 5분간 방치한 다음 전분시액을 지시약으로 하여 0.1N 치오황산나트륨용액으로 적정할 때, 이 용액의 소비 mL는 18mL 이하이어야 한다(Fe3+로서 2.0% 이하).

  (3) 납 : 이 품목 5.0g을 취하여 원자흡광광도법 또는 유도결합플라즈마발광광도법에 따라 시험할 때, 그 양은 2.0ppm 이하이어야 한다.

  (4) 카드뮴 : 이 품목 5.0g을 취하여 원자흡광광도법 또는 유도결합플라즈마발광광도법에 따라 시험할 때, 그 양은 1.0ppm 이하이어야 한다.

  (5) 수은 : 이 품목을 수은시험법에 따라 시험할 때, 그 양은 1.0ppm 이하이어야 한다.

  (6) 수산 : 이 품목 1g을 물 10mL에 녹이고 염산 2mL를 가한 다음 분액여두에 옮기고 에테르 50mL와 20mL로 연속추출하고 추출물을 합한 다음 물 10mL를 가해주고 에테르는 수욕조에서 증발건고한다. 이에 36% 초산 1방울을 가해주고 초산칼슘용액(1→20) 1mL를 가할 때, 5분 이내에 탁해져서는 아니 된다.

  (7) 환원당류 : 이 품목 0.5g을 온수 10mL에 녹이고 암모니아시액 1mL를 가하여 알칼리성으로 하고 철을 침전시키기 위해 이 액에 황화수소가스를 통과시킨 후 침전물이 엉키도록 30분간 방치하고 여과한다. 여지상의 잔류물을 물 5mL씩으로 2회 씻어주고 세액을 여액과 합해주고 염산으로 산성화하고 다시 묽은염산 2mL를 더 가해준다. 이 액을 약 10mL로 농축하고 식힌 다음 탄산나트륨시액 5mL 및 물 20mL를 가해주고 여과하고 여액에 물을 가하여 100mL로 한다. 이 액 5mL에 펠링시액 2mL를 가해주고 1분간 가열할 때, 1분 이내에 적색 침전이 생겨서는 아니 된다.

확인시험

  (1) 이 품목의 따뜻한 수용액(1→10) 5mL에 빙초산 0.7mL 및 새로 증류한 페닐히드라진 1mL를 가해주고 수욕조에서 30분간 가열하고 식힌 다음 유리봉으로 내벽을 긁을 때 결정이 석출된다. 결정을 취하여 이를 열탕 10mL에 녹이고 활성탄 소량을 가하여 잘 흔들어 섞어 여과한다. 식힌 다음 유리봉으로 내벽을 긁어 생긴 결정을 건조하여 융점을 측정할 때, 그 융점은 192～202℃이어야 한다.

  (2) 이 품목의 수용액(1→20)은 확인시험법 중 제일철염의 반응을 나타낸다.

정량법

  이 품목을 건조한 다음 약 1.5g을 정밀히 달아 물 75mL와 묽은황산 15mL의 혼액을 가하여 녹이고, 아연분말 250mg을 가해주고 20분간 실온에서 방치한 다음 미리 유리여과기에 아연분말을 얇게 적충한 다음 여과하고, 이에 묽은황산 10mL 및 물 10mL로 잔류물을 씻어 준다. 세액과 여액을 합한 다음 ο-페난트로린시액 2방울을 지시약으로 하여 즉시 0.1N 황산제이세륨용액으로 적정한다. 따로, 같은 방법으로 공시험을 한다.

화학적 성질

Ferrous Gluconate is a yellow-gray or light green-yellow fine powder or granules with a slightly caramel-like smell. Soluble in water (10g/100mg warm water), almost insoluble in ethanol. The 5% aqueous solution is acidic to litmus, and the aqueous solution can be stabilized by adding glucose.

용도

Ferrous Gluconate is a nutrient and dietary supplement that is a source of iron and a coloring adjunct. it is a yellowish gray to pale greenish yellow powder or granules with a burnt sugar odor. it has a solubility of 1 g in approximately 10 ml of water with slight heating. it is used by the pharmaceutical industry as an iron supplement in vitamin pills. it is used by olive growers to darken the olives to a uniform black color. it can function as an iron fortifier in corn and soy products, breakfast cereals, beverages, and dietary foods.

Biological Functions

Ferrous Gluconate is a form of mineral iron for oral administration, Ferrous Gluconate is absorbed in the stomach and small intestine and combines with apoferritin to form ferritin, which is stored in the liver, spleen, red bone marrow, and intestinal mucosa. Important in transport of oxygen by hemoglobin to the tissues, iron is also found in myoglobin, transferrin, and ferritin, and is as a component of many enzymes such as catalase, peroxidase, and cytochromes. Ferrous Gluconate is an iron mineral salt used in iron and multivitamin supplements. It is used to treat or prevent iron deficiency anemia (a lack of red blood cells caused by having too little iron in the body).

Safety Profile

Poison by intraperitoneal and intravenous routes. Moderately toxic by ingestion. Human systemic effects by ingestion: hypermothty, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Experimental reproductive effects. Questionable carcinogen with experimental tumorigenic data. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.
