분석용 시약 : 중금속 이온과 염기성염의 침전을 만든다. 그들 중 (A) 비스무트와의 침전 반응은 중량법에 의한 비스무트의 정량에, (B) 철(Ⅲ)과의 침전 반응은 다른 금속 원소에서 철을 분리 제거할 때에, (C) 토륨과의 침전 반응은 란탄족 원소에서 토륨을 분리할 때에 이용된다.용도
포름아마이드(Formamide) 또는 메탄아마이드는 포름산에서 나오는 아마이드이다. 물과 섞일 수 있으며 암모니아와 같은 냄새가 나는 투명한 액체이다. 의약품, 다른 의약품, 제초제, 살충제 및 시안화 수소산의 제조를 위한 화학 원료로 쓰이며, 종이와 섬유의 연화제로 사용되어 왔다. 또 여러 가지 이온화합물에 용매로 쓰이며, 수지 및 가소제의 용제로도 사용되었다.개요

Pure ammonium formate decomposes into formamide and water when heated, and this is its primary use in industry. Formic acid can also be obtained by reacting ammonium formate with a dilute acid, and since ammonium formate is also produced from formic acid, it can serve as a way of storing formic acid.Ammonium formate can also be used in palladium on carbon (Pd / C) reduction of functional groups. In the presence of Pd / C, ammonium formate decomposes to hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and ammonia.
Ammonium formate can be used for reductive amination of aldehydes and ketones (Leuckart reaction)
Ammonium formate can be used as a buffer in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and is suitable for use with liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS). .

Salts, basic, such as Ammonium formate, are generally soluble in water. The resulting solutions contain moderate concentrations of hydroxide ions and have pH's greater than 7.0. They react as bases to neutralize acids. These neutralizations generate heat, but less or far less than is generated by neutralization of the bases in reactivity group 10 (Bases) and the neutralization of amines. They usually do not react as either oxidizing agents or reducing agents but such behavior is not impossible.건강위험

Heat the solid in NH3 vapour and dry it in a vacuum till the NH3 odour is faint (note that it can evaporate completely in a vacuum). Recrystallise it from absolute EtOH and then keep it in a desiccator over 99% H2SO4 in vacuo. It is very hygroscopic. It exists in two forms, stable needles and less stable plates.
