nose drops; solvent for casein, albumin, shellac.

Safety Profile
Moderately toxic by
ingestion. Experimental teratogenic and
reproductive effects. When heated to
decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of
HCl and NOx.
Purification Methods
Crystallise the salt from H2O or H2O/EtOH. Wash the crystals with EtOH and dry them in vacuo. It sublimes on heating. [Beilstein 4 IV 1168.]
