순도시험

  (1) 비소 : 이 품목을 비소시험법에 따라 시험할 때, 그 양은 4.0ppm 이하이어야 한다.

  (2) 납 : 이 품목 5.0g을 취하여 원자흡광광도법 또는 유도결합플라즈마발광광도법에 따라 시험할 때, 그 양은 2.0ppm 이하이어야 한다.

  (3) 산불용성회분 : 이 품목을 회분시험법 중 산불용성회분에 따라 시험할 때, 그 양은 1.75% 이하이어야 한다.

  (4) 살모넬라 : 이 품목은 「식품의 기준 및 규격」 일반시험법의 미생물시험법 중 살모넬라에 따라 시험할 때, 음성(-)이어야 한다.

  (5) 대장균 : 이 품목은 「식품의 기준 및 규격」 일반시험법의 미생물시험법 중 대장균에 따라 시험할 때, 음성(-)이어야 한다.

확인시험

  (1) 이 품목 1g에 물 5mL를 가할 때, 용해되어 점조한 액이 된다.

  (2) 이 품목의 수용액 (1→100)을 규조토로 여과한 여액 5mL에 희석한 염기성초산납시액(1→5) 0.2mL를 가할 때, 침전을 형성하지 않거나 약간의 침전을 형성하며 이에 암모니아시액 0.5mL를 가할 때, 불투명한 양털모양의 침전을 형성한다.

  (3) 이 품목의 수용액(1→50)을 규조토로 여과한 여액은 좌선성을 나타낸다.

정의

  이 품목은 Anogeissus latifolia WALL. 또는 동족식물의 줄기에서 침출한 수액을 건조하여 얻어지는 다당류이다.

화학적 성질

Colorless to pale-yellow tears, rounded or vermiform. Almost tasteless and odorless, partially soluble in water. Can be solubilized by autoclaving.

물리적 성질

용도

Ghatti gum is a plant exudate obtained from the anogeissus latifolia tree. The gum is formed as a protective sealant when the bark is damaged. It forms viscous mixtures in water at concentrations of 5% or greater. Only about 90% of the gum is actually soluble in water and has a ph of 4.5. It has similar uses as gum arabic. It is also termed indian gum. It is used in buttered syrup and as a stabilizer for emulsions.
