The p53 pan ELISA is designed for use in research studies as a method for determining p53 (human, mouse, and rat) in serum and plasma, or from tissue homogenates (tumor-tissue or tumor cell lines). The assay is a research tool specially developed to further understand the relationship between elevated p53 levels and tumor development.

The p53 pan ELISA is a one-step immunoreaction–photometric enzyme immunoassay for the quantification of p53 (human, mouse, rat) in cells, homogenates, plasma, or serum. The assay is a research tool intended for use to further understand the relationship between elevated p53 levels and tumor development.

The p53 tumor suppressor is involved in the control of cell growth and programmed cell death. Inactivation of p53 by mutation, deletion, or certain viral and cellular proteins increases susceptibility to malignant transformation. Wild-type p53 levels in normal cells and tissues were found to be very low, although mammalian tumors and tumor cell lines are often found to have high concentrations of the p53 polypeptide. This accumulation of mutant p53 protein is the result of a conformational change in the protein, with consequent prolonged half-life and stability. Mutations in the p53 gene are among the most common genetic alterations found in human malignancies.

Standards
Six standards, ranging from 0 to approximately 1,200 pg/ml, are provided with lot-specific data. The p53 (mutant) standards are derived from the human epidermoid carcinoma cell line A431 (ATCC^? CRL 1555 TM), and is stabilized with an artificial matrix.
