Chemical Properties | Hydroxylamine Hcl is extremely soluble in water, with a solubility of 84g/100g at 20°C. It is also soluble in lower alcohols and glycols. A 0.1 molar solution of the substance has a pH value of 3.4. | Uses | Hydroxylamine Hcl is an important organic synthetic raw material used as an ingredient in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. It is also used in the preparation of oximes and hydroxy acids in organic synthesis. In addition, it is used as a catalyst, swelling agent, copolymerisation inhibitor, antioxidant, vulcanisation accelerator, free radical scavenger, anti-skinning agent, corrosion inhibitor, detergent and additive. It is widely used in pharmaceutical, agricultural, rubber, plastic and chemical industries. | Preparation | Hydroxylamine Hcl is prepared from nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, acetone and chlorine. Acetone is reacted with a mixture of concentrated nitric acid and concentrated hydrochloric acid, the resulting reaction mixture is chlorinated with chlorine to produce a solution containing phosgene oxime, said solution is heated in order to hydrolyse the phosgene oxime, and the resulting solution is evaporated to recover hydroxylamine hydrochloride. |
