TRICHLORONATE Usage And Synthesis
UsesTrichloronate is a highly toxic organophosphate insecticide.
DefinitionChEBI: Trichloronat is an organochlorine compound.
General DescriptionAmber liquid. Used as a non-systemic insecticide. Not sold in the U.S or Canada. Not registered as a pesticide in the U.S.
Reactivity ProfileOrganophosphates, such as TRICHLORONATE, are susceptible to formation of highly toxic and flammable phosphine gas in the presence of strong reducing agents such as hydrides. Partial oxidation by oxidizing agents may result in the release of toxic phosphorus oxides.
Health HazardMaterial is an organophosphate and toxic effects are due to action on the nervous system. It has high oral toxicity and death can occur in acute poisonings. Delayed neurotoxicity has been reported.
Fire HazardWhen heated to decomposition, TRICHLORONATE emits very toxic fumes of chlorine containing compounds, phosphorus oxides, and sulfur oxides.
Safety ProfilePoison by ingestion and skin contact. Moderately toxic by inhalation. An insecticide. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of Cl-, POx,, and SOx. See also CHLOROPHENOLS.
