| Description | Direct Red 80 (Sirius Red), a tetra azo dye, is used to detect amyloid and enhance the birefringence of collagen fibers in tissue sections. |
| In vitro | Procedure 1. Wash the samples in dH2O, pre-treat with 0.2% phosphomolybdic acid (PMA) solution for 40 minutes, add 0.1 g Direct Red 80 to saturated picric acid aqueous solution (1.3 g/100 mL distilled water) to make 0.1% Direct Red 80, and incubate with the samples for 30 minutes. 2. Wash each sample in 0.01 M HCl for 2 minutes. |
