Sulfacetamide is a sulfonamide antibiotic that blocks the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid by inhibiting the enzymedihydropteroate synthase(DHPS)with IC50 of 9.5 μM. Sulfacetamide is a competitive inhibitor of bacterialpara-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), which is required for bacterial synthesis of folic acid.
