该基因位于9号染色体短臂（p-arm），是与多个CC趋化因子基因聚集于此的基因簇成员之一。细胞因子作为参与免疫调节与炎症反应的分泌蛋白家族，其CC亚型以两个相邻半胱氨酸为结构特征。本基因编码的蛋白质对皮肤归巢记忆T淋巴细胞具有趋化活性，该细胞因子还介导淋巴细胞向皮肤组织的定向迁移。它能特异性结合趋化因子受体CCR10（chemokine receptor 10）。基于小鼠同源蛋白的研究表明，此类蛋白-受体相互作用在T细胞介导的皮肤炎症中发挥枢纽作用。
