Ormutivimab is a recombinant human IgG1‑lambda monoclonal antibody developed as a passive immunotherapeutic agent against rabies. It specifically targets the surface glycoprotein of the rabies virus (Rabies Virus Surface Glycoprotein 4), a key viral envelope protein essential for host cell attachment and entry. By binding to this glycoprotein with high affinity, the antibody neutralizes the virus, preventing its interaction with host neuronal receptors and thereby blocking infection. As an IgG1 isotype, it may also engage immune effector functions. It is used for post‑exposure prophylaxis (PEP) of rabies in individuals exposed to suspected or confirmed rabid animals, often as part of a regimen that includes rabies vaccine.
