Abagovomab is a murine monoclonal anti-idiotypic antibody (MW ~150 kDa) that mimics the cancer antigen CA125. It was developed as a therapeutic vaccine for the treatment of ovarian cancer. The antibody functions by stimulating the patient's immune system to produce anti-anti-idiotypic antibodies, which in turn generate a specific immune response against CA125-expressing tumor cells. While demonstrating immunogenicity in clinical trials, its development was discontinued following Phase III trials which did not meet the primary endpoint of significantly improving recurrence-free survival.
