순도시험

(1) 유리알칼리 : 이 품목 1g에 새로 끓여서 식힌 물 50mL를 가하여 잘 흔들어 섞은 액에 페놀프탈레인시액 2방울을 가할 때, 홍색을 나타내어서는 아니 된다.  (2) 염화물 : 이 품목 0.1g에 물 10mL를 가하여 잘 저어 섞고 수산화나트륨용액(1→25) 2mL를 가하여 흔들어 섞어서 10분간 방치한 다음 질산(1→10)으로 강산성으로 한다. 이 액에 과산화수소 0.5mL를 가해주고 수욕 중에서 30분간 가열하고 식힌 다음 물을 가하여 100mL로 하고 건조된 여과지를 사용하여 여과한다. 여액 20mL를 취한 다음 이를 시험용액으로 하여 염화물시험법에 따라 시험할 때, 그 양은 0.01N 염산 0.2mL에 대응하는 양 이하이어야 한다.  (3) 황산염 : 이 품목 0.1g에 물 10mL를 가하여 잘 저어 섞고 수산화나트륨용액(1→25) 2mL를 가하여 흔들어 섞어서 10분간 방치한 다음 염산(1→4)으로 강산성으로 한다. 이 액에 과산화수소 0.5mL를 가해주고 수욕 중에서 30분간 가열하고 식힌 다음 물을 가하여 100mL로 하고 건조된 여지를 사용하여 여과한다. 여액 20mL를 취한 다음 이를 시험용액으로 하여 황산염시험법에 따라 시험할 때, 그 양은 0.01N 황산 0.4mL에 대응 하는 양 이하이어야 한다.  (4) 비소 : 이 품목을 비소시험법에 따라 시험할 때, 그 양은 4.0ppm 이하이어야 한다.  (5) 납 : 이 품목 5.0g을 취하여 원자흡광광도법 또는 유도결합플라즈마발광광도법에 따라 시험할 때, 그 양은 2.0ppm 이하이어야 한다.

확인시험

  (1) 이 품목 0.1g에 물 10mL를 가하여 잘 저어 섞은 다음 수산화나트륨시액 2mL를 가하여 흔들어 섞고 10분간 방치한 액을 시험용액으로 하여 「카복시메틸셀룰로스나트륨」의 확인시험 (1)에 따라 시험한다.

  (2) 이 품목 1g을 강열하여 얻은 잔류물에 물 10mL 및 초산 5mL를 가하여 녹이고 필요하면 여과한 다음 끓이고 식혀 암모니아시액으로 중화할 때, 액은 확인시험법 중 칼슘염의 반응을 나타낸다.

강열잔류물

이 품목을 건조한 다음 1g을 취하여 강열잔류물시험법에 따라 시험할 때, 그 양은 10～20%이어야 한다.

생산 방법

Cellulose, obtained from wood pulp or cotton fibers, is carboxymethylated, followed by conversion to the calcium salt. It is then graded on the basis of its degree of carboxymethylation and pulverized.

Pharmaceutical Applications

The main use of carboxymethylcellulose calcium is in tablet formulations, where it is used as a binder, diluent, and disintegrant. Although carboxymethylcellulose calcium is insoluble in water, it is an effective tablet disintegrant as it swells to several times its original bulk on contact with water. Concentrations up to 15% w/w may be used in tablet formulations; above this concentration, tablet hardness is reduced.
Carboxymethylcellulose calcium is also used in other applications similarly to carboxymethylcellulose sodium; for example, as a suspending or viscosity-increasing agent in oral and topical pharmaceutical formulations. Carboxymethylcellulose calcium is also used in modern wound dressings for its water absorption, retention and hemostatic properties.

Safety

Carboxymethylcellulose calcium is used in oral and topical pharmaceutical formulations, similarly to carboxymethylcellulose sodium, and is generally regarded as a nontoxic and nonirritant material. However, as with other cellulose derivatives, oral consumption of large amounts of carboxymethylcellulose calcium may have a laxative effect.

저장

Carboxymethylcellulose calcium is a stable, though hygroscopic material. It should be stored in a well-closed container in a cool, dry place.
