| METHDILAZINE HYDROCHLORIDE (200 MG) Usage And Synthesis |
Originator | Tacaryl ,Westwood,US,1960 | Uses | Antipruritic. | Definition | ChEBI: Methdilazine hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of methdilazine. It contains a methdilazine. | Manufacturing Process | 10.8 parts of 10-(1-methyl-3-pyrrolidylmethyl) phenothiazine (prepared from 1-methyl-3-pyrrolidylmethyl chloride by reaction with phenothiazine) in 80 parts of 99% isopropyl alcohol were treated with a solution of 1.33 parts of hydrogen chloride in 30 parts of the same solvent. The clear light yellow solution soon deposited white crystals of the acid addition salt. After cooling overnight at 0°C, the crystalline product was collected on a filter, washed with 99% isopropyl alcohol and anhydrous ether and then dried in a vacuum oven at 95°C. Yield 10.4 parts, MP 187.5° to 189°C. | Brand name | Tacaryl (Westwood-Squibb). | Therapeutic Function | Antipruritic | General Description | Methdilazine hydrochloride(Tacaryl Hydrochloride), also occurs as a lighttancrystalline powder with a slight characteristic odor. Thesalt is freely soluble in water and in alcohol, however. Theactivity is like that of methdilazine, and it is administeredorally for its antipruritic effect. | General Description | White microcrystalline powder with a slight odor. pH (1% aqueous solution) 4.8-6. | Air & Water Reactions | Water soluble. pH (1% aqueous solution) 4.8-6 . | Reactivity Profile | METHDILAZINE HYDROCHLORIDE (200 MG) is sensitive to exposure to light. An acidic salt. Materials in this group are generally soluble in water. The resulting solutions contain moderate concentrations of hydrogen ions and have pH's of less than 7.0. They react as acids to neutralize bases. These neutralizations generate heat, but less or far less than is generated by neutralization of inorganic acids, inorganic oxoacids, and carboxylic acid. They usually do not react as either oxidizing agents or reducing agents but such behavior is not impossible. | Fire Hazard | Flash point data for METHDILAZINE HYDROCHLORIDE (200 MG) are not available; however, METHDILAZINE HYDROCHLORIDE (200 MG) is probably combustible. |
