Carboxymaltose iron is a new type of intravenous iron agent. It is a complex (codenamed "VIT-45") formed by the encircle of the trivalent polynuclear iron core (β-FeOOH) by carboxyl maltodextrin (i.e. the oxidation product of maltodextrin).
