(Bromodifluoromethyl) trimethylsilane (TMSCF2Br) is commonly used as a source of difluocarbene formation. TMSCF3(Ruppert-Prakash reagent) and BBr3 undergo a rapid halogen exchange reaction to form MSCF2Br.

gem-difluorocyclopropa(e)nes

O-, S-, N-, and P-difluoromethylation compounds

(chlorodifluoromethyl) trimethylsilane

As Hu and his colleagues report, (Bromodifluoromethyl) trimethylsilane is a very useful reagent for forming difluoromethylene-containing ternary rings, and can also form difluoromethylated heteroatoms with the help of an alkaline base (most efficiently for KOH).
