Reaction Conditions:

Steps:

1-Bromo-2,4,6-triisopropylbenzene.

1-Bromo-2,4,6-triisopropylbenzene (1i) (36 m L, 0.142 mmol), Co(tbp) (4.2 mg,0.007 mmol) and KOH (319.5 mg, 5.7 mmol) were added in EtOH(2.0 mL). The mixture was degassed for three freeze-pump-thawcycles, purged with N2, and heated to 150C for 10 h. 100% yieldof 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene was detected by GC-MS analysis usingdecalin as internal standard. The reaction mixture was puriedwith silica gel column chromatography using hexane as eluent toget the rst fast moving fraction as 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene(27.4 mg, 0.13 mmol) in 94% yield.1H NMR (CDCl3, 400 MHz)d 1.28 (d, 18H,2J 6.9 Hz), 2.85e2.95 (m, 3 H), 6.94 (s, 3 H).
