b) The product of the previous step (10.2 g, 53.9 mmol) was dissolved in 20 mL of phosphorus oxychloride and refluxed for 1 h. The phosphorus oxychloride was removed by rotary evaporation, the residue was poured into ice water, the pH was adjusted to 4-5 with a saturated aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate, suction filtered, washed with water and dried to obtain 9.8 g of 2-chloroquinoline-4-carboxylic acid, the yield was 87.5%;
