Steps:

1 Synthesis of 5-acetamidonaphthalene- i-sulfonyl chloride (C):

A solution of sodium 5-acetamidonaphthalene-1-sulfonate (7 g, 24 mmol) in chlorosulfuricacid (40 mL) was stirred at ft for 16 h. The reaction mixture was poured onto ice water understirring and the crude product was precipitated out. The precipitate was filtered and dried under vacuum to give C (5 g, 72%) as a white solid: ‘H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6): (59.89 (brs, 1H), 8.71 (d, J= 8.4 Hz, 1H), 8.03 (d, J= 8.3 Hz, 1H), 7.96 (d, J= 7.3 Hz, 1H), 7.59 (d, J = 6.5 Hz, 1H), 7.47 (t, J = 7.8 Hz, 2H), 2.16 (s, 3H); LCMS (ESI+, m/z): 284 (M+H).
