Yield:17361-44-3 32%

Reaction Conditions:

with potassium carbonate in dimethyl sulfoxide at 80; for 12 h;

Steps:

5.3.1.1. Synthesis of N,N-di-n-hexylamine (i)a

General procedure: Mixture of n-hexylamine (2 g, 19.6 mmol), n-hexyl bromide (3.17 g, 19.6 mmol) and anhydrous potassium carbonate (1.99 g, 19.6 mmol) in 15 mL dimethyl sulfoxide was kept under stirring for 12 h at 80oC. The reaction mixture was taken in 50 mL chloroform, washed with water (3 x 50 mL), dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and filtered. Chloroform was removed from the filtrate on a rotary evaporator. Silica gel column chromatographic purification of the resulting residue using 60-120 mesh silica gel size and 1-2% methanol in chloroform (v/v) as the eluent, afforded the intermediate secondary amine. This yielded compound (i)a as a Yellow liquid (1.2 g, 32% yield, Rf =0.6 in 10% methanolic chloroform, v/v,as the TLC developing solvent).
