[Toxicity]

Formerly used as a systemic insecticide. Its use was discontinued because of severe delayed neuropathy hazard in humans. The oral LD50/LC50 in rabbits is 100 mg/kg. Toxic action is as a neurotoxicant with both acute and delayed actions, acting as a cholinesterase inhibitor (acute toxicity) and as a neurotoxic esterase inhibitor (possibly linked to delayed toxicity). Symptoms in humans are typical anticholinesterase symptoms. Therapy is supportive as well as atropine sulfate and 2-PAM.
