Description
Sodium palmate strips away dirt and oil: Sodium palmate quite literally lifts oils, dirts and other impurities off of the skin so that they can be washed away.
Uses
Sodium palmate can be used as a base ingredient in soap making and cosmetics. It is a core ingredient in many types of soap and is made from palm oil.It is often combined with sodium cocoate, coconut oil sodium salt and the sodium salt of animal fat, sodium tallow. Together these three are one the major constituents of modern soap base.
Side effects
While sodium palmate is a gentle cleanser, because it’s so good at stripping oils off of the skin, it can be drying.
Synthesis
Sodium palmate is synthesized by reacting palm oil with sodium hydroxide. This process is called saponification. Saponification is a process that produces soap, usually from fats and lye. Saponification occurs when a fatty acid reacts with an alkali.
