UsesCaprylic/capric acid is used primarily in many industrial processes and as an additive to certain products. It is a chemical intermediate and lubricant, a solubilizer for mineral oils and a flotation aid frequently used in the oil and gas industry. It is also employed in the production of medium chain triglycerides (MCT), synthetic fats that are used medicinally by people unable to tolerate other types of fat.
Production MethodsCaprylic-capric acid is obtained from fractionation of a lauric-type oil. The product obtained has a melting point of about 7 ° C. When in liquid form, it is almost colourless and with a characteristic odour. Also known as MCT (medium chain triglyceride).
