Usage: 

Dimethylphenyloethylogenol (DPC for short) is a synthetic fragrance with strong natural flowers. It has a soft and attractive scent of lilacs and roses. It can be used as the main raw material for various flower fragrances and novel fragrances.

Preparation: 

Grigell reagent was prepared from 3 phenylpropionate ethyl vinegar by placing 500mg(35mmol) magnesium dust and 25mL anhydrous ether into a three-mouth flask equipped with a reflux condensing tube and a dropping funnel, and adding 5.89(40mmol) iodomethane and 10mL anhydrous ether to make a solution. A mixture of 1.89(10mmol) 3-phenylpropionate acetic acid and 5mL ethyl ether was added to the liquid under ice bath cooling. Water bath return lh after adding. It is then cooled in an ice salt bath and the reaction mixture is poured under agitation into a mixture of 50g ice and lmL concentrated sulfuric acid. The ether layer was extracted with ether and the water layer was extracted with 2x20mL ether. The extraction solution was combined and washed with sodium bicarbonate solution and saturated salt in turn. Dry with anhydrous magnesium sulfate and steam away the solvent. The light yellow oil liquid dimethylphenylethanol (2.2g) was eluted by silica gel column chromatography with ethyl ether and petroleum ether (3:7).
