White or milky powder, odorless, almost insoluble in water, soluble in methanol, soluble in acetone, ethanol, ether and propane-1,2-diol, slightly soluble in peanut oil and chloroform. Used as antioxidant.
Function of Octyl gallate
1. Acts as an antioxidant and helps to protect our cells against oxidative damage.
2. Have anti-fungal and anti-viral properties.
3. Was found to show cytotoxicity against cancer cells, without harming healthy cells.
4. Used as a remote astringent in cases of internal haemorrhage.
