Triphenylphosphine oxide is an organic compound with the chemical formula C18H15OP. It is a pure white crystalline powder, soluble in alcohols and benzene, insoluble in petroleum ether, slightly soluble in hot water, and irritating.

Melting point: 154-158 ° C (427-429 K).

Boiling point: 462.9 ± 18.0 ° C.

Flash point: 233.8 ± 21.2 ° C

Steam pressure: 2.62E-08mmHg at 25 ° C

Molecular structure: Ph3PO and POCl3 have a similar tetrahedral structure.

The rigidity of the triphenylphosphine oxide skeleton and the alkalinity of the oxygen atom make it capable of inducing crystallization of compounds that are difficult to crystallize by other methods, especially effective for substances containing acidic hydrogen, such as phenols.
