Steps:
tert-Butyl N-[(6-hydroxymethyl-2-pyridyl)methyl]carbamate (17b)
General procedure: To a solution of 0.9 g (6.5 mmol) of compound 16b in 50 mL of dichloromethane was added 1.53 g (7 mmol) of Boc2O. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 h. The solvent was distilled off in a vacuum and the residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (ethyl acetate-hexane, 1 : 1). Yield 1.43 g (93%). Mass spectrum, m/z (Irel, %): 239.0 (100) [M + H]+.
