Steps:
Cyclization in presence of bromine in CHCl3 (6, 7)(general procedure).
To a solution of thiourea (1 mmol) in chloroform was added bromine (2 mmol) dissolved in the same solvent over a period of 1-1.5 h. The resulting mixture was neutralized with NaHCO3 solution. The hard gummy mass thus obtained was washed repeatedly by diethyl ether. The solid thus obtained was recrystallized from ethanol. N-(5-(Bromomethyl)-4,5-dihydrothiazol-2-yl)-pyridin-2-amine (VI).
