Steps:

Add 15mL deionized water to a 50mL reaction flask,Then add granular sodium hydroxide (1.3g, 63mmol), stir for 15min until it is completely dissolved, add 2,4-dichlorophenol (5g, 100mmol), add formaldehyde solution (37%-40%, 6mL, 167.6mmol) after dissolution ), stirred at 50°C for 48h, during this process, the solution gradually changed from light yellow to yellow to dark red. After the reaction stopped, the reaction solution was transferred to a beaker, and the pH was adjusted to about 3 with hydrochloric acid while stirring, and a dark red oil appeared. , extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×50mL), then washed with saturated brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, recrystallized with CH2Cl2 to obtain a white solid (8.3g, 76.7%);
