Step 1: 2,6-Dimethylbenzenesulfonyl chloride was prepared from 2-bromo-1,3-dimethylbenzene according to the procedure in Example 18, Step 1-2. The reaction gave product as a white solid in 84% yield. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-D6) ppm 2.54 (s, 6 H), 6.94 (d, J=7.33 Hz, 2 H), 7.02 (m, 1 H).
