with fuming sulphuric acid in lithium hydroxide monohydrate at 120; for 12 h;

Steps:

2.2. Synthesis of H4L ligand

20 mL of fuming sulfuric acid (SO3, 20wt%) was slowly added to a 100 mL three-neck flask containing 4g (18.5 mmol) naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid under stirring. Then the reaction mixture was stirred at 120 °C for 12 h. After cooling to room temperature, the mixture was transferred into concentrated HCl and the white power of acid H4L was precipitated. The power was washed serveral times with concentrated HCl. Then pure product was collected by centrifuge and dried at 80 °C. Yield 6.0g (86%)based on naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid. IR (KBr pellet, cm1): 1287 (m), 1196(s), 1113(w), 1047(m) (OSO of -SO3H group) [42], 623(m).
