A. 4-Nitro-2-trifluoromethylbenzoxazole (476A) 2-Amino-3-nitrophenol (10.00 g, 64.88 mmol) was added to 100 mL of vigorously stirring trifluoroacetic anhydride and the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 12 h. The solvent was removed in vacuo to give a dark blue solid which was dissolved in 200 mL of CH₂Cl₂ and washed sequentially with 10% NaOH (2*100 mL), water (100 mL), brine (100 mL), and dried over MgSO₄. Filtration and concentration in vacuo gave compound 476A (10.78 g, 72%) as a brown solid.
