4-tert-Butylthiophenol can be used as organic synthesis intermediates and pharmaceutical intermediates, mainly used in laboratory research and development processes. A mixture of tert-butyl 4-(tert-butyl)phenyl sulfide, thiophenol, and  boron trifluoride-phosphoric acid complex was heated slowly to 90° C, and stirred for four hours, cooled to 25° C. The organic layer was purified to give 4-tert-Butylthiophenol.
