Reaction Conditions:

Stage #1: isoniazid;thiourea at 170;
Stage #2: with sodium hydroxide

Steps:

3-(Pyridin-4-yl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole-5(4H)-thione (5)

was obtained similarly to compound 4 (procedure b) from 2 g (0.015 mol) of isonicotinic acid hydrazide and 4.57 g (0.06 mol) of thiourea Yield 2.5 g (93.6%), mp 350°. IR spectrum, ν, cm-1: 3195 (NH), 1610 (=N), 1272 (C=S). 1H NMR spectrum, δ, ppm (J, Hz): 7.79 d (2H, H3,5, 3J = 6.1), 8.67 d (2H, H2,6, 3J = 6.1), 13.90 br. s (2H, H9,11). 13 NMR spectrum, δ, ppm: 119.98 (3,5), 133.03 (4), 148.85 (7), 151.10 (2,6) and 168.19 (10). Found, %: 47.24; H 3.45; N 31.51. 7H6N4S. Calculated, %: 47.18; H 3.39; N 31.44.
